Sustainable Sonoma is proud to release this expert-informed housing affordability strategy for Sonoma Valley. We have the foundation for true cross-community collaboration on an issue that affects every aspect of our community—affordable homes for all community members.

The strategic recommendations in the Homes for a Sustainable Sonoma Valley: Strategic Recommendations for Our Community report are tailored to Sonoma Valley—its challenges, assets, and particular makeup. Every recommendation in the report meets Sustainable Sonoma’s demanding criteria that it advance economic security, equitable well-being for all, and environmental and climate sustainability.

The 50-page report is the result of Sustainable Sonoma’s community-wide listening process in 2018, a cross-sector exploration of housing issues in 2019, detailed input from several housing experts in late 2019, and Sustainable Sonoma’s crisis response activities in 2020.

Homes for a Sustainable Sonoma Valley: Strategic Recommendations for Our Community is the blueprint for answering the Sustainable Sonoma Housing Declaration’s call to action.

Many parties can and should take hold of these recommendations and make them real. These include local government staff, elected officials, nonprofits who serve Sonoma Valley, donors who care about the Valley, and Sonoma Valley’s famously capable volunteers and advocates.
