The Solution
Over 100 nonprofits and agencies work to make Sonoma Valley a better place. Though most share a similar vision of a better Sonoma Valley, we lack a coordinated workplan, common goals, and shared, measurable outcomes that would lead to efficiencies and greater success. Sustainable Sonoma unites Sonoma Valley’s many efforts to improve our community under one set of shared goals and measurable targets. This common agenda will align our activities and accelerate success in achieving a sustainable community.
SUSTAINABLE SONOMA TAKES A COLLECTIVE IMPACT APPROACH
No single organization has the ability to solve any major social problem by itself. Collective Impact is a cross-sector approach to collaboration that achieves measurable effects on social issues.
Collective Impact initiatives are defined by five conditions that together produce alignment and lead to powerful results.
Common Agenda: Common understanding of issues and shared vision for change
Shared Measurements: Collecting data and measuring results, focus on performance management and shared accountability
Continuous Communication: Consistent and open communication and a focus on building trust
Mutually Reinforcing Activities: Differentiated approaches and coordination through a joint plan of action
Backbone Organization: Separate, neutral organization with staff and resources and skills to convene and coordinate participating organizations
Sustainable Sonoma is a chapter of Health Action, a Sonoma County collective impact initiative with the mission to mobilize community partnerships and resources to achieve equity and improve health for all in Sonoma County.
