Challenge Solution
Establishing a new nonprofit Partner with an existing entity (e.g., Sonoma County Housing Fund, Sonoma Valley Collaborative) to incubate the SVCDC.
Securing funding to recruit staff with skillsets not usually found at nonprofits. The SVCDC executive needs to establish a trusting network of stakeholders and have extensive experience and skill in, for example, real estate transaction practice, housing law, the entitlement process, negotiation and conflict resolution, fundraising, confidentiality, and real estate finance. Raise initial funds from county/city housing trust funds, philanthropic grants, and private investment.
Establishing a trusting relationship across a broad stakeholder community Build a governance structure that ensures equity, transparency, and accountability.
